⋘ Unadulterated Joy ⋙
Sometimes in life joy seems to escape us for a myriad of reasons. How then can we reconnect with a sense of joy or delight in life? I'm talking about that gut wrenching, barrel roll laughing glee that eases our soul into contentment, and yes IT IS POSSIBLE. Some tips to tap into that JOY: taking stock in the small things, fostering those interpersonal relationships to create CONNECTION, and taking a leap of faith to try new things (NOVELTY). Even if it feels impossible to reconnect with joy, it's important to remember that small actionable steps matter. I'm rooting for you!
⇛ REPETITION COMPULSION ⇚
Repetition compulsion is the subconscious acting out of previous traumatic experiences over and over again. This concept was proposed by Freud in 1914, fast forward to today we often refer to this as self sabotage.
Repetition compulsion involves engaging in traumatic events or putting oneself in positions where the event will often happen again.
Freud theorized that traumatic repetition was a persons attempt to "master" the original trauma. This begs the question how can we master our trauma without delving into the depths of pain time and time again. This is where awareness, breath work and therapy come in handy!
